Jacopo Pitta

Born in Florence, he graduated from the Leon Battista Alberti Art School in Florence, and later from the Sculpture Department of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (Florence Academy of Fine Arts). Recurring themes in his works are political and social issues, as well as the hardships faced by contemporary artists. His works often consist of isolated and distorted figures, rich in allegory—such as the blues musician, who, in the artist’s imagination, represents both humanity and the creative potential born from suffering. Figures with twisted gestures, along with shrunken and emaciated bodies, evoke a strong sense of unease. The characters in these works are forced into various awkward movements, which imply their helpless predicament of being manipulated. Since 2015, he has been active in the city of Florence, organizing street performances and events.
