Background:
Located in the core area of Xingguo Old Town (Lianjiang Town), the district encompasses Yaogangbei Street and Yongfu Street, and is home to historic sites including Lianjiang Academy, the former site of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, and the former residence of Hu Can. Steeped in Xingguo’s revolutionary heritage and Hakka culture, the district leverages cultural and creative empowerment to build a “storytelling block,” achieving both cultural revival and commercial revitalization.
Curatorial Approach:
Historical landmarks such as Lianjiang Academy and the former Youth League Committee site are transformed into immersive exhibition spaces. Through thematic exhibitions and integrated commercial formats, average daily foot traffic has tripled, positioning the area as a new cultural tourism hub in southern Jiangxi. “A Story in Every Step and Scene” – each zone features a narrative thread, enhanced by QR codes offering audio guides that deepen historical interpretation.
Outcome:
The project has received provincial recognition and was selected as an exemplary case of urban renewal in Jiangxi Province. Interactive features include an “Old-Item Exchange Station” located in the Supply and Marketing Cooperative memory zone, where visitors can trade vintage objects for cultural and creative products, fostering emotional resonance.
